ROBOT-GUN 전자변신 로보트총 - Astro Magnum mold Korean variant

ROBOT-GUN
전자변신 로보트총
Coko - Item No. SC-1100

4 Changeable - 2 Sound Selectable Battery Operated

Robot-Gun is easily one of our favorite variants based on the Astro Magnum mold. This particular figure sports a wide variety of mold modifications, including the very distinct removable red horns (wings/bats).

Robot-Gun was made in Korea and released through Coko Toys Co. Ltd. back in the 1980's. Coko Toys, for a time, released Lego type toys to the Asian market under the name Coko Bricks.

Robot-Gun has at least two versions.

KOREAN (V1)
The first version (V1) was clearly identified as a Coko product. The red elephant Coko logo was on the outside of the Robot-Gun package. (V1) instructions were in Korean and the battery cover for Robot-Gun was stamped "Made in Korea". Lastly, the (V1) box displayed a large Korean quality control sticker on the side of it. 코코산업 80년대 트랜스포머 변신로보트 총

(V1) came with two different sets of optional stickers.

Sticker sheets never came with instructions as to their proper placement.

ENGLISH (V2)
Later (V2) would be released. (V2) would try to appeal more to the English speaking market. The Coko label and Korean quality control sticker would be removed from the (V2) box. The "Made in Korea" stamp is removed from the battery cover. The instructions are now in English and the "Made in Korea" wording on the instructions are obscured with black marker. Lastly, on the (V2) box, small black stickers are also placed to hide the text "Made in Korea".

Few complete sets of Robot-Gun are known. Of these, most versions are Robot-Gun (V1) and finding a (V2) is extremely hard to do with only one known sample to date.

(V2) English Robot-Gun (no Coko sticker)

(V2) No quality control sticker and a black rectangle sticker has been placed over the words "Made in Korea", bottom right corner.

(V2) Instructions: Notice the black marker in the bottom right corner covering up the words, which are still semi-visible, "Printed in Korea".
(V2) Battery Cover is now blank with "Made in Korea" having been removed.

As previously stated, Robot-Gun sports a variety of mold changes making it very distinct from other Astro Magnum Variants.

There are at least two other color versions of Robot-Gun. One comes from the photography on the box itself. This test / mock up/ prototype figure appears to have darker grey/black colors, black 'horns' and clear translucent plastic vs. the final orange.

This next figure is very unique. This appears to be a Red, White & Blue test shot made during the original molding of the figure. This probably predates even the box photography figure above.

In 2021, modern third-party toy maker NEWAGE released a mashup of a Robot-Gun (Box art), Astro Magnum (figure art) and Galactic Man (name).
