The 'GE' series of vintage Astro Magnum KOs come to us from a hugely prolific KO (knock off) manufacture out of Taiwan named Glacier Toys aka Glacier Enterprise (GE).

Glacier placed their logo on the inside of the left leg. Glacier Toys used this logo, prior to being called Glacier Enterprise, therefore the logo appears to be a large "G". Glacier used the prefix 'GE' on a large portion of it's known KO product codes.

(A) Battery cover is very light gray color and is stamped:
"MADE IN TAIWAN" & "BATTERY ENERGY"
(B) Sound switch has 4 small ridges. Reads, "VULCAN" or "MAGNUM" sound.
(C) Sound switch is deep V. Reads, "BULCAN" or "MAGNUM" sound.

A GE series Astro Magnum figure made an appearance
on an episode of MacGyver back in the 1980s.
The dark charcoal body color along with the very light gray
battery cover make it easily identifiable.

6 BOX VARIANTS

Glacier Enterprises (GE) produced at least six different known box variants (V1 - V6).

Boxes V1-V6 are believed to have been released in this chronological order. This belief is based on the similarities and differences of the: figures, box art, translucent plastics, instructions and most importantly the evolution of the arm peg design.

Within these 6 boxes, GE would release 5 different figures (F1-F5). Some figures would be used in multiple boxes.

These figures will be further detailed below, however, here is a snapshot of how they differ and in which box each figure can be found:

(F1) figure = light pink plastics (2 arm pegs, both are flat circles) in (V1 box only)
(F2) figure = magenta plastics (2 arm pegs, both are flat circles) in (V2, V3, V4, V5 boxes)
(F3) figure = rose plastics (2 arm pegs, one is a flat circle, one is pointed) in (V5 box only)
(F4) figure = magenta plastics (3 arm pegs, all three are pointed) in (V5 box only)
(F5) figure = muted red plastics (3 pegs, all three are pointed) in (V5, V6 boxes)

(V1) Box

(V1) GE-2819 (mini pics). The front of this box displays mini photos of Vulcan Base, Gunborg and Laser Vulcan modes. It features the 'GE' logo on top of the box. The light blue 3D effects of the Astro Magnum lettering point to the right. 

(F1) Figure (light pink)

(F1) figure. Pink plastics and black transistors.

These are the only known loose images of the (F1) figure. Regrettably someone customized the figure to some degree. Despite the paint customizing, it is clear that based on the translucent pink plastics and the black transistors to the right of the figure's chest that the cover photo on each of the GE boxes is in fact a (F1) figure. (F1) is only found in the (V1) box.

At this time we currently don't know what the instructions looked like or if there was a separate sticker sheet that came in the box.

(V2) Box

GE-2819 (V2) box comes with GE logo - light gray tri-fold instructions and sticker sheet. Instructions are light gray in color and sport the words: Electron Robot, Magnum Sound, Vulcan Sound and Laser Ray.

While the box is different, Electrobot uses the same (F2) figure and same GE logo light gray instructions found in the (V2) box. These factors lead us to believe that 'GE' probably released the (V3) Electrobot box shortly after or simultaneously with the release of the (V2) box, albeit to different markets.

When analyzing the historic chronological lineage of the GE-2819 Astro Magnum / Super Electronic Gun series, a decades-old corporate anomaly finally makes perfect sense. For years, collectors have noticed that Glacier Enterprise utilized the exact same master prefix—GE-2819—to catalog both their premium four-changeable Astro Magnum laser guns and their motorized, transforming Robot Car (a bootleg of Yonezawa's Daijim). The answer to this catalog doubling is completely exposed by the proprietary ledger of Shyu Syin Toys (SST).

Shyu Syin Toys held the original factory engineering patents and plastic tooling dies for the transforming vehicle, cataloged sequentially inside their facility as Item No. SST-7303. Because Glacier Enterprise operated as the massive private-label workhorse of the Taiwanese industry, they stepped in to mass-produce and distribute SST’s motorized vehicle for Western retail giants. Rather than treating GE-2819 as an isolated product stock number, Glacier utilized it as an internal industrial code designated specifically for their high-end, battery-operated multi-sound circuit boards. When Glacier ran a production shift using Shyu Syin's vehicle tooling, it received the GE-2819 electronic stamp; when they ran a shift using the four-changeable space gun tooling, it received the exact same electronic ledger designation.

Furthermore, the physical evolution across the six known GE-2819 box variants beautifully documents the defensive maneuvering of this factory bloc as the global copyright walls closed in. The early V1 through V3 editions proudly featured the stylized "G" Glacier logo directly on the box faces and light-gray instruction tri-folds. However, as major legal crackdowns like the Wales Industrial vs. Hasbro lawsuits intensified in late 1985, Glacier was forced to systematically scrub their corporate identity. Later editions transformed into the completely anonymous HK-106 layout, scrubbed of all factory marks and distributed through shadow brokers like Golden State International's Ohsama Collection or FET Import Export in the UK. This was a calculated shell game: by laundering their elite electronic mechs through unbranded packaging, Glacier safely kept their factories running shifts night and day without risking asset seizures from Western customs.

The instructions are however different. First released with the GE logo tri-fold instructions except they are now light blue, no longer gray. Later the instructions converted to the HK - light blue version.

The Camouflage Strategy: How the V4 "Ohsama Collection" Bypassed U.S. Customs

The V4 "Ohsama Collection" (Item 89-1001) serves as a brilliant case study in the tactical legal maneuvering used by 1980s toy importers. Imported by Golden State International based out of San Francisco, California, this specific release of Glacier Enterprise's Astro Magnum managed to slip right past aggressive U.S. Customs blockades set up by Hasbro and Takara. Instead of operating in secret, Golden State bypassed customs by using administrative camouflage. They completely scrubbed Glacier’s corporate marks from the box exterior and replaced them with a fictional, generic private-label brand name: the "Ohsama Collection." To a busy customs inspector at the Port of San Francisco, a manifest reading "Ohsama Collection Electronic Toys" sounded like a harmless, original novelty line rather than a targeted copyright-infringing mold clone.

To further solidify their legal shield, Golden State printed the text "Manufactured expressly for Golden State International" directly onto the side of the packaging. By framing themselves as the original commissioners of an exclusive product rather than secondary buyers importing bootleg salvage stock, they created a legitimate corporate paper trail. However, the ultimate "smoking gun" of this logistical game is captured in the evolution of the V4 instructions. Early runs shipped with Glacier’s official blue tri-fold sheets that still mistakenly featured the factory's "G" logo. Realizing that an open-box inspection by customs would expose the Taiwanese factory connection, Golden State executed a rapid mid-production swap. They scrubbed the factory logo entirely and introduced the completely generic "HK" instruction sheet (famous for its "Gunboorg" spelling error)—wiping away the last internal trace of Glacier Enterprise and ensuring the mechs walked safely onto American retail shelves.

(V5) Box

The (V5) box was the most widely used and distributed box by far. It can be found clear around the world from the Philippines to Peru. Inside you may encounter one of four different figures, either the: F2, F3, F4 or F5 versions.

The (V6) FET Import Export box appears to have been primarily sold in the UK with all known samples coming from there so far. Vaults of Iacon said, "It was purchased from a shop called Poundstretcher back in 1985 or 1986 for £6.99 GBP."

(V6) box comes exclusively with the (F5) figure who has 'muted red' translucent plastics and 3 pointed pegs on the right arm.

Glacier Enterprise Co., LTD - Taiwan

Glacier Enterprise used the prefix of GE on several toy lines, manyyyy in fact. A couple that we will discuss in later posts involve:
